BridgePort Networks’ MobileIGNITE Alliance Adds Fixed and Mobile Terminal Solutions Members

Core Mobility, Sipura Technology , TapRoot Systems to Join Interoperability Alliance for MobileVoIP Convergence

NEW ORLEANS — CTIA - – March 14, 2005

BridgePort Networks, the leader in MobileVoIP convergence, today named three new member, Core Mobility, Sipura Technology and TapRoot Systems, to the MobileIGNITE alliance. The MobileIGNITE alliance is designed to bring together leading MobileVoIP companies to speed time to market of MobileVoIP convergence solutions for mobile carriers and other service providers, by working on open, standards-based interoperability.

The next frontier of VoIP, MobileVoIP convergence combines the personalization and mobility of mobile phone services with the flexibility, innovation and outstanding cost economics of the rapidly growing VolP sector. The end-to-end solutions tested by MobileIGNITE alliance members are based on open standards interoperability with BridgePort Networks’ NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway (NCG) software. Such solutions assist service providers to improve the quality, coverage and cost of mobile service delivery, and to add mobility to fixed VoIP telephony services, using a single subscriber phone number identity.

“MobileIGNITE has momentum because vendors and service providers alike recognize the need to take a page from the Internet business model in building MobileVoIP solutions”, said Mike Mulica, President and CEO, BridgePort Networks. “Internet technologies evolve faster because interoperability work is done early, even as the standards process continues. MobileIGNITE helps to combine the speed of adoption of the VoIP sector, with the controlled services model and customer ownership so important to incumbent fixed and mobile service providers.”

MobileIGNITE alliance members collectively bring a full complement of pre-tested hardware and software elements for network infrastructure and subscriber devices together with deployment and integration services. These end-to-end solutions allow subscribers to seamlessly roam between mobile and VoIP services using a single phone number identity.

The new members of the MobileIGNITE alliance each bring a specific expertise to the ecosystem:

Core Mobility’s Mobile Client Suite product line has shipped on millions of high volume handsets, enabling mobile operators to offer a variety of unique high value services. The latest addition to the suite is a Dual Mode Handset client that provides highly optimized performance for VoIP, SMS and PTT over cellular and Wi-Fi networks, with seamless interoperability using a single phone number. The product is further complemented by Core Mobility’s Carrier IQ product line, an innovative solution that leverages sophisticated embedded client software to measure and optimize quality of service actually delivered to end users.

“We are very excited about our partnership with BridgePort Networks,” said Konstantin Othmer, president and CEO, Core Mobility. “The combination of BridgePort Network’s infrastructure offering with Core Mobility’s Dual Mode Handset and Carrier IQ software will provide a complete and high-quality solution with carrier grade performance and manageability across an array of dual mode handset solutions. The MobileIGNITE alliance will compliment our interoperability efforts by promoting the solution to open standards frameworks such as IMS.”

Sipura Technology is a leading provider of open standard SIP based VoIP analog telephone adapters and desk top IP phones, and will collaborate with BridgePort Networks on mobile phone presence aware adapters that will map mobile phone services to broadband VoIP delivery.

“Sipura Technology believes that MobileVoIP convergence is as great an opportunity to VoIP service providers as it is to mobile service providers,” said Jan Fandrianto, Sipura Technology president and CEO. “We are excited to be pioneering the category of MobileVoIP convergence telephone adapters and desktop IP phones with BridgePort Networks. The MobileIGNITE alliance will help to further accelerate VoIP adoption by consumer and enterprise users.”

TapRoot Systems is the premier provider of embedded 802.11 and telephony software for Symbian OS smartphone manufacturers. TapRoot is the largest independent provider of Symbian OS based smartphone software products in North America and is a member of the Series 60 Platform Product Creation Community.

“TapRoot provides embedded software for today’s leading smartphones. We are very pleased to be part of the MobileIGNITE alliance and are now able to offer the entire Symbian OS licensee community access to this standards based convergence technology”, said Hugh Thomas, TapRoot’s CEO.

The MobileIGNITE alliance is based on open standards such as the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Signaling System 7 (SS7) and 802.11 and members share a commitment to migrate their solutions to an IMS (IP Multimedia System) network environment. This permits program members to offer near-term standards-based go-to-market solutions that leverage existing low cost SIP compatible terminals such as softphones, IP phones and analog telephone adapters in combination with legacy mobile phones, as well as supporting the new emerging cellular/Wi-Fi dual mode handsets.
